GREGORY POWELL TEXTILES is a multidisciplinary textiles studio. My practices include weaving, hand dying, and custom sewing.

My interest in yarn and textiles began as a child, running around my grandparents’ butcher shop in Pittsburgh, PA. To keep me entertained, they would distract me with large rolls of cotton twine used to wrap patrons’ purchases. Some of my earliest memories are of using this industrious string to create patterns and shapes.

I began my formal study of textiles while attending the TylerSchool of Art in Philadelphia for theater design and fiber arts. There I began my textile practice, inspired by modern art as well as traditional weaving designs and techniques.

My grandparents’ passion for food and entertaining continues to influence me as a prop and set designer as well as a textile designer specializing in the highest quality goods that are not only beautiful but functional.
